One of my favorite things to do at theme parks is arrive just at rope drop, grab one ride, and then treat myself to a special breakfast. On this particular morning, as I sprinted through the cobblestone streets of Diagon Alley to ride Escape from Gringotts, I decided it was the perfect time to try breakfast at The Leaky Cauldron.
In this review, I'll go over my full thoughts and everything you need to know to plan your next visit.

Jump to:
Atmosphere & Location:
To find The Leaky Cauldron, walk through the brick entrance to Diagon Alley and almost immediately look to your left. You'll see a brick archway topped with the painted words, flanked by two menus.

Step inside to enter the queue, where you'll find replicas of menu items and a few off-menu Wizarding World treats, like the infamous Fish Head Pie.
By the time you reach the counter, you really feel like you've stepped into the movie itself. The cashiers are dressed in full wizarding server garb, pointy hats included, and the walls are adorned with portraits that make the space feel truly magical.

The dining area is filled with wooden picnic-style tables and benches, complete with napkins and condiments.
After your meal, you can wander next door into one of my favorite spots, Knockturn Alley, to continue exploring the darker side of Diagon Alley.

The Menu & Ordering:
The Leaky Cauldron serves both breakfast and lunch/dinner, making it a choice no matter the time of day.

The breakfast menu, available until 10:30 AM, offers everything from a hearty traditional English breakfast to lighter options like oatmeal and fresh fruit.

For lunch and dinner, you'll find UK classics such as Bangers & Mash and Shepherd's Pie. Entrée prices for both breakfast and dinner generally hover around $20. Portion sizes are solid, with most dishes leaning toward the heavier, filling side.
Ordering is flexible: you can go through the queue, pay at the register, and receive a table number for your meal to be delivered, or you can skip the line and order directly from your table using the Universal mobile app by entering your table number.

What I Ordered:
On this visit, I went with the Egg, Leek, & Mushroom Pasty (V) ($19.99), a pastry-wrapped scrambled egg, mushrooms, and leeks, served with breakfast potatoes and fresh fruit, along with a Pumpkin Juice ($5.49). The restaurant was fairly busy, but my food arrived about 10 minutes after ordering.

I started with the Pumpkin Juice. The texture reminded me of unfiltered apple juice, which I really enjoyed, but the flavor was a miss for me. It tasted overwhelmingly sweet, almost cotton-candy-like, with little to no pumpkin or squash flavor. I can see this appealing to kids or those with a sweet tooth, but it wasn't what I expected. I might try the bottled version next time to see if it's any closer to real pumpkin flavor.
The Egg, Leek, & Mushroom Pasty, on the other hand, was a highlight. The sides were impressive: a generous mix of fresh-cut fruit and thick, roasted breakfast potatoes that were hot and perfectly seasoned. A rare win for theme park quick service.
The pasty dough was more like a buttery American biscuit than a traditional pasty pastry, crumbly, rich, and herby, so if you're expecting a classic flaky crust, keep that in mind. The filling was custardy, savory, and well-seasoned, with mushrooms, leeks, and eggs all cooked just right. Not the healthiest start to a theme park day, but very filling. Just be ready to wait at least an hour before hopping on any coasters.

For a sweet finish, I had a Butterbeer Soft-Serve, my usual must-order on every Universal trip. Vanilla ice cream swirled with "butterscotch and white chocolate" butterbeer syrup, served in a cup (my preference). The texture and flavor are always spot-on , creamy, thick, and indulgent, a perfect little treat to round out breakfast.
Know Before You Go:
- Quick service - there is no traditional server; you'll either order at the cashier or use the Universal mobile app.
- Meals served - breakfast (until 10:30am), lunch, and dinner.
- Reservations - not needed; just walk in and place your order.

Final Thoughts:
Overall, I really love The Leaky Cauldron as a quick service breakfast spot. Was the pumpkin juice my favorite? Not quite-but as a die-hard Harry Potter fan, the theming alone makes it worth the visit. Add in a genuinely delicious breakfast and the option for that iconic Butterbeer soft serve, and it's a no-brainer that I'll be returning.
Have you tried it? What's your favorite dish or drink here?
