Bettergoods Strawberry Fruit Strips Review

  • Facebook
  • Email

Bettergoods Strawberry Fruit Strips are individually wrapped fruit snacks from Walmart's Bettergoods line, made with real fruit puree and juice concentrates. I decided to give them a try mostly because they're labeled gluten-free, and I'm always on the hunt for little healthy-ish snacks that I can eat throughout the day or throw into my bag for a theme park day.

About Bettergoods Strawberry Fruit Strips

Bettergoods is Walmart's private-label brand offering everything from frozen meals and pantry staples to snacks and specialty products.

These Strawberry Fruit Strips are thin, chewy fruit snacks made primarily with fruit puree and juice concentrates. Each strip comes individually wrapped, which makes them particularly convenient for lunchboxes, travel, or throwing into your bag for an on-the-go snack.

There are 20 individually wrapped fruit strips in each 10-ounce box.

Bettergoods also makes a larger variety pack that includes a general berry flavor, although I haven't seen that particular flavor sold in its own package.

At my local Walmart, a box costs $6.47.

And most importantly for my fellow gluten-free shoppers: the package is actually labeled gluten-free! They're also labeled vegan.

Nutrition & Ingredients

One thing I really like about these fruit strips is the relatively simple ingredient list. They're made with real fruit puree and juice concentrates and don't contain high fructose corn syrup or certified synthetic colors.

The main ingredients include:

  • Apple puree concentrate
  • Apple juice concentrate
  • Strawberry juice concentrate
  • Pectin
  • Natural flavors
  • Vegetable juice from carrot and cabbage for color

Taste Test

One of my favorite things about these is that every fruit strip comes individually wrapped. I'm always looking for small gluten-free snacks that I can throw into my bag for a theme park day, so I really appreciate the convenience.

bettergoods Strawberry Fruit Strips texture

Each strip is around 1 ½ inches wide and 4 inches long and is fairly thick for a fruit strip. They're translucent and deep red in color with little specks from the fruit throughout.

They also have a surprisingly natural smell. Instead of that super-sweet artificial fruit smell you sometimes get from fruit snacks, these actually smell a bit like fresh fruit.

The exterior is slightly oily, which I imagine helps keep the fruit strip from sticking to the wrapper.

Then I took a bite and was immediately transported back to kindergarten lunch.

The texture is exactly like a Fruit Roll-Up.

bettergoods Strawberry Fruit Strips thickness

It's gummy, chewy, a little sticky, and absolutely gets stuck in your teeth. Thankfully, the flavor isn't like a Fruit Roll-Up-and I mean that as a compliment.

Instead of tasting intensely sweet or artificial, these have a much more natural fruit flavor. They're actually more tangy than sweet, with apple and strawberry being the strongest flavors. I even pick up just the slightest hint of carrot in the background.

Overall, both the flavor and texture are actually quite nice.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are Bettergoods Strawberry Fruit Strips gluten-free? Yes! Bettergoods Strawberry Fruit Strips are labeled gluten-free. They're also vegan.
  • What do Bettergoods Strawberry Fruit Strips taste like? They taste much more like actual fruit than a traditional fruit snack. Apple and strawberry are the strongest flavors, with just a slight hint of carrot in the background. They're also more tangy than overly sweet.
  • What is the texture like? They're sticky, gummy, and chewy-very similar to the texture of a Fruit Roll-Up.

  • Are Bettergoods Fruit Strips good for travel or lunchboxes? Absolutely. Their small size and individual packaging make them particularly easy to throw into a backpack, purse, lunchbox, or theme park bag.

Final Thoughts

There are actually quite a few things I like about Bettergoods Strawberry Fruit Strips. They're gluten-free, individually wrapped, made with mostly fruit-based ingredients, and have a surprisingly natural flavor.

Would I buy them again for myself? Probably not, but that's less about the quality of the product and more about what I'm personally looking for in a snack.

At only 50 calories with essentially no protein or fat, I didn't find them particularly filling. And at nearly $7 for a box of 20, they're a little pricey for something that doesn't really hold me over between meals.

However, I think these could be fantastic for families with small children. The ingredient list is fairly simple, the fruit flavor is surprisingly good, and the Fruit Roll-Up-like texture makes them feel a little more fun than just handing your kid a piece of dried fruit.

So while they won't become a regular addition to my own snack stash, I actually think they're a good product for the right person.
