Creamy Cajun Pasta

This Creamy Cajun Pasta is perfect for when you need an easy, quick dinner. Kielbasa sausage, chopped bacon, onions, and peppers are all sauteed and combined with ravioli and a creamy Cajun sauce.

Ingredient Notes:

  • Pasta: Use your favorite. I love to use cheese filled ravioli for this recipe.
  • Meats: A combination of sliced smoked sausage and chopped bacon.
  • Veggies: A blend of sliced onions, peppers, and garlic.
  • Creamy Cajun Sauce: A blend of tomatoes, heavy cream, parmesan, and Cajun seasoning.

Dietary Swaps:

  • Vegetarian: Skip the bacon and sausage and replace with sauteed mushrooms or extra veggies. Also double check that your Parmesan is labeled gluten-free as some contain animal rennet.
  • Gluten-free: Use a gluten-free ravioli and double check the labels of the seasoning and the sausage.

  • Extra Veggies: Stir in sauteed mushrooms or sauteed spinach for a veggie boost.
  • Switch the Protein: Add or swap in shredded rotisserie chicken or shrimp.
  • Make it a lil Spicy: With a few added dashes of hot sauce.

Tips & Recipe Notes:

  • For the sauce, use a cream with a higher fat content. This helps prevent curdling.
  • Cajun seasoning generally has a high salt content so you may not need to add more. Taste before adding any extra salt.
  • If the sauce thickens too much, loosen it with a splash of broth or reserved pasta water.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Ingredients
  

  • 16 oz cheese ravioli
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 12 oz smoked sausage sliced
  • 4 slices thick-cut bacon chopped
  • 2 cups sliced bell peppers mix of red & green
  • 2 cups sliced yellow onion
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • ⅔ cup canned diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • ⅓ cup grated Parmesan
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook ravioli according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  • In a large deep skillet or Dutch oven, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add sausage, bacon, bell peppers, and onions. Cook 8-12 minutes until browned and tender.
  • Stir in garlic, diced tomatoes, and Cajun seasoning. Cook 1 minute more.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low. Stir in heavy cream, Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Simmer 6-12 minutes until thickened to your liking.
  • Fold cooked ravioli into the sauce and simmer 1 minute to warm through.
  • Garnish with parsley and additional Parmesan before serving.
