- 2 large slices sourdough bread
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 cup shredded cheese shredded from the block or 4–6 slices
- (Optional Additions) pickle relish, tomato slices, cripsy bacon slices
Heat a frying pan over medium heat.
Spread mayonnaise onto the outside of each bread slice.
Place one slice of bread mayo-side down in the frying pan.
Top with shredded cheese (and any toppings if using), then add the second slice of bread, mayo-side up.
Cook 3-4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy and the cheese has melted.
Slice in half and serve immediately.
- Shred cheese straight from the block. Pre-shredded cheese is often coated in anti-caking agent that makes it not melt as well.
- Mayo can be swapped for melted butter or butter spread.
- Covering the pan with a lid traps steam and can help the cheese melt faster without burning the bread.
