Honey Balsamic Fried Red Cabbage with Goat Cheese & Walnuts
This Honey Balsamic Pan-Fried Red Cabbage is an elegant side dish for any occasion. Sauteed red cabbage full of creamy rich goat cheese, crunchy walnuts, and a sweet honey balsamic dressing.
1head red cabbagesliced ¼ inch thick- about 6-8 cups
Olive oil
¼cupchopped walnuts
¼cupcrumbled goat cheese
2tablespooncurly leaf parsley chopped
For Honey Balsamic Dressing:
¼cupextra virgin olive oil
2tablespoonhoney
2tablespoonbalsamic vinegar
1garlic clovefinely minced
Kosher salt & fresh cracked pepperto taste
Instructions
Mix Balsamic Honey Dressing– in a small mixing bowl whisk together ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, honey, kosher salt, and fresh cracked black pepper. Set aside.
Cook Cabbage– heat a drizzle of olive oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Add sliced red cabbage and stir until evenly coated. Cook 4-6 minutes, stirring often, until cabbage just begins to brown and become tender. Turn heat down to medium-low and pour in balsamic mixture. Continue cooking and stirring for 4-6 minutes until desired tenderness is reached.
Finish– remove frying pan from heat, add chopped walnuts, crumbled goat cheese, and chopped parsley. Stir to combine and serve.
Notes
Red Cabbage- has a lovely vibrant color and is a bit denser than green cabbage.
Cabbage will reduce by about half as it cooks.
Balsamic Vinegar- has a balanced sweet and sour flavor, with hints a molasses and fig.
Brown sugar can be used instead of honey.
Instead of walnuts, try pecans or pistachios!
Other great additions: crispy bacon or caramelized onions.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
